The Pin & Petal began long before it had a name, a storefront, or a sign hanging above the door. It started in California, where quiet back roads, open fields, and thick summer woods offered endless places to explore. As a child, I was the one turning over stones, collecting beetles with iridescent wings, saving fallen feathers, and tucking away strange little treasures that others might have overlooked. What began as simple curiosity grew into a lifelong fascination with the natural world—especially the delicate, the unusual, and the beautifully odd.

Over the years, my collection expanded from insects and botanicals to antique trinkets, forgotten curiosities, and objects with stories etched into their surfaces. Friends and neighbors began to recognize my eye for the strange and lovely, and soon I found myself connecting with others who shared the same fascination. Madison may be a small town, but it holds a space for people with big curiosities.

The idea for The Pin & Petal came from a simple thought: what if there were a place where collectors, wanderers, and oddity enthusiasts could gather? A place where preserved wings, pressed flowers, vintage curios, and mysterious artifacts could live side by side? Opening a shop—and later building a website—became the natural next step. It was a way to grow my collection, share my passion, and meet others who feel the same spark when they discover something unusual.
